equip items ?

how do i equip items ? i'm at beginning of game, did the picnic area wasp quest, talked to maze; i'm in bowerstone: how do i equip my sword , etc. ? am i unable to equip anything while in a town ? thanks

bowerstone is a no weapon area. So you'd have to leave. then I'm pretty sure you have to go into your inventory and equip it that way.
