^If you're going for the gold key, make sure that you wait until you get the achievement for settling Driftwood...don't remember what it's called. Basically, the carpenter builds things up, and the gold key can't be reached until after he has finished, which isn't until the achievement is unlocked.

Remember that an object as large as the spire would look similar from many places along the coast. While it's fun to speculate, it's not a small, say, rock formation off the coast, it's a giant edifice in the middle of the ocean. It's going to be hard to pinpoint a shore based on its placing.
